King Jr was assassinated—a significant year for the civil rights movement in the US and globally.

Decay of the American Idol (A Portrait of Marilyn Monroe). Digital File. Acrylic and mixed media on a 48"
x 60" canvas, photographed and digitally enhanced. 2008. I began this painting on August 5, the very day
Marilyn had died on in 1962, without even realizing this until later.
Yeshua (Isaiah 53). Acrylic, gold leaf, sand, gravel, dirt, bible page and varnish on
canvas. 30" x 40" in. 2008. A portrait of Christ with his Jewish name “Yeshua”written in
Hebrew in gold leaf like a gold crown on his head, representing His role as the King of
Kings and the Prince of Peace. The white bar at the bottom center is a passage from
the bible, Isaiah 53, a prophecy of the sufferings Christ would face, written over 500
years before His crucifixion.
Simplicity (A Portrait of Ghandi). Acrylic, graphite and tape on cardboard.
44" x 62" in. 2008. Ghandi was a lawyer who renounced the comforts and
prestige of a lawyer’s life to identify with the poor, fighting against oppression
and racist laws. Many of the poor are treated like discarded cardboard...
but everyone is beautiful and amazing in God's eyes.
